Washington State to Attempt Universal Coverage Plan 

Ramping up state budget by one third

The failure of universal health insurance schemes doesn't keep the politicians from trying.

The Washington Policy Center analyzes a proposal by Mike Kreidler, the state's insurance commissioner.

On the plus side, Kreidler's plan would cap anyone's catastrophic costs at $10,000 in any year. That still a lot of money, but some people will find that appealing.

On the negative side .... Where do we start? How about with the fact that the total cost is $6.5 billion--and the general fund budget is $17 billion. Add in the fact that most government programs come in at way over the estimated costs, and we're looking at one big mess, complete with care rationed by bureaucrats.
