The failure of universal health insurance schemes doesn't keep the politicians from trying.
The Washington Policy Center analyzes a proposal by Mike Kreidler, the state's insurance commissioner.
On the plus side, Kreidler's plan would cap anyone's catastrophic costs at $10,000 in any year. That still a lot of money, but some people will find that appealing.
On the negative side …. Where do we start? How about with the fact that the total cost is $6.5 billion–and the general fund budget is $17 billion. Add in the fact that most government programs come in at way over the estimated costs, and we're looking at one big mess, complete with care rationed by bureaucrats.
