The Promise of ‘Faith-based Health Care’

A few years ago, "faith-based" this and that was the buzz. Now we're seeing it in health care–and I don't mean charity care.

Robert Goldberg has this to say:

"The laws of economics dictate that if demand for a good or service rises, so must the cost. If every American were given open access to all-you-can-eat buffets, the cost of providing that food would go up because consumption would rise.

But when you belong to the church of universal health care, rationing is one's moral and ethical obligation. Indeed, universal care proponents have faith that central planners can figure out a way to make more cost less by deciding for everyone what health care services to get rid of, what treatments to pay for and what innovations to develop. Just like we have solved the problem of energy dependence, poverty and world hunger."

Want to see where this "faith" leads? Look to Canada and elsewhere, he warns.
