Politicians have long intervened to say what sorts of health insurance you must buy. (Nationwide, there are over 2,000 such requirements.)
Those benefit mandates are put in place by state-level politicians. Now Congress wants to up their legislative counterparts by moving beyond saying what kind of insurance you can buy to saying that you must buy it, period. And of course they’re going to also say what kind of insurance it can be–which may not be the kind that you want or need.
