Medical marijuana will be coming to North Dakota, if one of the state’s residents gets his way. Del Snavely, who used to used medical marijuana while living in the state of Washington, is working on securing a ballot measure to enact a similar law in North Dakota.
I’ve never smoked a joint in my life and have no desire to do so, yet I find the med-marijuana campaign–which has succeeded in “more than dozen states,” according to the article–encouraging. First, it’s simply a pro-freedom move. It also expands the scope of health care options by a tiny bit.
Finally, the enactment of state laws is a strike back against the “Congress knows best” attitude that has held sway since the 1930s. “The federal Justice Department has said it won’t target medical marijuana dispensaries if they’re complying with state law,” says the AP article, printed in the Grand Forks Herald. Such a stance gives hope that the Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act will have legal as well as political legs.
I have to admit, I believed Marijuana for Medical Issues was a bunch of ‘Malarkey’. until 6 months ago, while working construction in the southern states, I found out that I have Hepititis C. While on treatment, the Interferon Shot knocked me down to the point where getting out of bed at anytime of the day to “Start My Day” was extremely difficult. I had to quit work. One of my temporary neighbors convinced me to try smoking marijuana and to my surprise it was extrememly helpful. It did not make me feel ‘high’ as they call it, It just eased my sickness so that I could get through treatment. Now I am a believer. I see now that my doubts about it’s ability to help were unfounded. My husband and I may soon move to Williston ND for work, and I need to go through the Hepititis treatment again, for the 3rd time. If there is anything I can do to help the Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act, I would like to do so. Thank you for your time,
Cynthia M. Wiese-Martin
Yes Cynthia it is good that something seems to help you. But is that a reason to open the door to millions of children to smoke Pot. Why do you think the old name for it was/is Loco Weed. Ya it was legal back in the 30s why? because it was used to make “rope”. Look at Humboldt County Calif. if you want a great example of the “GOOD” Cannabis does. They have Medical and at least 80% of the population must be ill. No matter what the advocates say, there also can be medical repercussions from Mary Jane use.
Oh yes, how did I start smoking, why from stealing mom and dads cigarettes so you say big deal. Yes it was since I smoked for the next 30 years. But let a child start smoking pot, and they might have a number at recess in school, but now they are high for the rest of the day. I could care less if you get high on pot, but you are starting our kids down a road that has no end, with heroin, cocaine, and worse. Why not just take a real prescription drug. What is next, Oh honey your depressed because Daddy spanked you, here smoke this it will make you happy again. What happens at smoke break at work, pot? Great idea, this is how America was created! Ya!! Freedom is great, but lets not lead our kids down the wrong path . Medical pot is now legal in Calif. but soon all pot will be legal. Of course that may help out with Calif. debt. and put more people on welfare. Glad I am 74 and will not be around when this whole thing comes to a rotten head.
