Autism Mandate Coming to Ohio?

The trendy autism mandate may be coming to Ohio. A House committee approved it as part of the state's operating budget:

"We must prevent Ohio families from making decisions between forsaking crucial services or going into debt," Rep. Linda Bolon, D-East Palestine, said of the mandate, which is opposed by small businesses.

Of course, those small businesses and individuals who are now priced out of the market due to the increased cost of insurance are just out of luck, I guess.

To go off on a little bit of a tangent, I've never understood the line of reasoning that it's a bad thing to go into debt because of medical bills. People go into debt for a variety of reasons. Some people don't seem to give it a thought to put a high-definition TV on a credit card or take out a loan to buy a car, but it's viewed as a major tragedy to go into debt to pay for a medical procedure. It seems that if you are going to go into debt at all, doing to so pay for a life-saving procedure is about the best reason for you to do it. In a perfect world I guess no one would go into debt. But why is it the duty of the government to prevent us from going into debt in this one area of our lives? I just don't see the logic in that.
